Microsoft buys Nokia Handset Business for $7.17 Billion

Microsoft announced the deal late Monday night, saying the boards of both companies had approved the agreement, which is expected to close by the first quarter of next year. Microsoft and Nokia were already the closest of friends, with Nokia standing as the major seller of handsets based on the Windows Phone software. The partnership has not panned out as well as either company hoped: The Windows smartphones hold a tiny fraction of the device market, when compared to products from Apple (AAPL) and those based on Google’s (GOOG) Android software.

In March 19993 Kevin Carter became famous for his award winning picture that made the front page of the New York Times. It was a picture he took in Sudan of a starvation ravaged little girl crawling along a dusty road desperately trying to get to the United Nation’s clinic oblivious of a vulture waiting in the background for an opportunity to devour her! The photographer, Kevin Carter who took the heart wrenching picture, did not deem it fit to help the child who was at the point of death by carrying her to the U.N clinic but simply (after snapping the scene with his camera) went to take a smoke under the shade of a tree to watch the macabre drama of the vulture waiting to feast on the hapless child!

 1.North Yungas Road, Bolivia-Also known as the “Road of Death” in Bolivia, it is often cited as the most dangerous road in the world. It is a regular occurrence for buses and trucks to go tumbling to the valley below, especially when they try passing each other. Yea, walking doesn’t sound too bad after all.

 2.The Himalayan Roads(India)-This catch all term for any road leading up into the Himalayas refers to a very dangerous network of unpaved, narrow, and slippery roads that are dotted with crashed cars and rolled over buses.

 3.Guoliang Tunnel Road,- China-Although it may be hard to see in the photo, this road in China was hollowed out of the side of a mountain by several villagers from the town of Guoliang. Before the construction of this mountain pass the village was cut of from the rest of civilization by the surrounding cliffs. Although it doesn’t see much traffic, due to its construction it is inherently fairly dangerous

 4.Taroko Gorge Road, Taiwan-Known as one of the most dangerous roads in Taiwan, the Taroko Gorge Road is full of blind curves, sharp turns, and narrow paths leading through cliffs and mountains.

 5.Halsema Highway, Philippines-The only way to get to Sagada, a popular tourist spot in the Philippines, is via the landslide-prone Halsema Highway. It is one of the most poorly maintained roads in the world and every year a bus or two will go rolling over its edge.
